OUR STORY
How it all started-Three Little Birds:

Our backyard chicken experience started when someone in our community left one of the best gifts ever given in a small white laundry basket at the Bartonville Veterinary Center early one morning in June 2017. Melissa (Dr. Cordero) and Chris Cross instantly fell in love with three beautiful white pullets with black speckles that a kind-hearted stranger entrusted to their care on that warm summer day in Texas. Chris got busy after work that same day building a tiny clandestine coop next to their house.Providing shelter, food, treats, fresh water, and shade for these Texas-raised hens has rewarded Chris and Melissa with abundant eggs, unlimited backyard entertainment and love for three years now.

How and why we started homegrowneggs.com–Strutty the Rooster Bringing Neighbors Together in Times of Uncertainty, Lock downs, and Riots
And a word from Rick Hopper: Hey friends and Chicken Lovers. Before I met Chris and his rooster named Struticus Maximus (Strutty for short), I had no experience with chickens, other than “I LOVE EGGS” and I hate being told how many I can buy. When I finally successfully convinced my wife to move to the more “Country” setting of Bartonville,Texas, she made it clear... “No Farm Animals of any kind”. Well, that was before the Covid/Toilet-Paper event. Next thing you know, she was 100% on board with raising chickens and growing food. I now call my wife of 33 years that was born and raised in the city, my little farm-girl. It suits her nicely, and she’s never had more fun as she spoils the heck out of our lady chickens.
I have an extensive history of designing products, fixing and building things. Take one look at my first chicken coop and greenhouse and you will see what I’m talking about. Take a look at some of our coop designs. I know you will find one that is perfect for any size yard.
Closing thoughts-The Ultimate Backyard Chicken Experience
We are excited to share all that we are designing, building, and learning with others in our community to help bring love, companionship, and HOMEGROWNEGGS to you and your friends or family. Together we can care for backyard chickens that bring us sufficient love, courage and strength to make our homes and communities more resilient no matter how weird times may get in the future.
